Trauma Treatment

When we experience a trauma such as an assault, a car crash or shock break up we are sometimes left with on-going symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, phobias, physical pain, anxiety and low mood.EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) is a treatment that is used to treat trauma and phobias. It has a really solid evidence base and is used in both the NHS and the military. It is also recommended in the NICE guidelines. The treatment works by using bi-lateral stimulation so this can either be simple eye movements, sounds or tapping.  This is done while the client pictures the most upsetting part of the event. The theory is (brain scans evidence this) that the bilateral stimulation stimulates the brain stem to access the memory and process the memory in a natural way. Consequently relief from symptoms can be achieved fast.I could talk about this at length but it makes it sound more confusing than is necessary. The beauty of this treatment is that it can provide fast and sustained results without the need for on-going counselling or even relaying explicit details of the original trauma.I did my EMDR training within the NHS for both adults and children and I have had the opportunity to help a great number of people become symptom free.Call me or email me if you have a trauma or a trauma based phobia that you is bothering you. I will talk you through the process so that you can see if it is right for you.
